Slat Grills - Made In USA

FAQs

(Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: What is the SlatGrill made out of?

A: The SlatGrill is made out of hard-anodized aluminum (black in color), making it great-looking, lightweight, resistant to corrosion, and food safe. The slats are made out of stainless steel.

Q: How large is the grill?

A: Total assembly with canvas roll is 3 - 4 lbs., depending upon how many slats you decide to use (standard set includes 9 slats; a minimum configuration consists of 2 slats). Packing dimensions are 18x4x1/2 inches (without canvas roll) and 18.5x5.25x2 inches (with canvas roll). The assembled SlatGrill forms a rectangular box 18x12x4 inches.

Q: What kinds of fuel sources work best with the SlatGrill?

A: You can use any fuel source with the SlatGrill — including charcoal, wood, white gas, butane, alcohol, chafing fuel (Sterno), Bunsen burner, and candles. Several fuel source options work well with the SlatGrill, including the MSR Whisper Light Stove.

Q: How many slats are included?

A: The grill comes standard with 9 slats placed in groups of three, or rearranged to fit multiple purposes. Extra slats can be added to fill all 15 slots.

Q: How do I clean the grill after cooking?

A: Allow parts to cool, then disassemble and soak in sudsy solution (Dawn detergent); scour as necessary with ScotchBrite scrubby and Bar Keepers Friend powder, rinse and wipe clean. Lightly oil stainless steel slats for next use. In a pinch simply let parts cool, clean with soapy water, rinse, and dry.

Q: Is there any warranty?

A: Absolutely. Every SlatGrill comes with a Lifetime Guarantee for workmanship, including the canvas bag.

Q: I lost or damaged a part — do I have to buy a whole new grill?

A: Not at all. Individual parts are sold separately -- just order replacement parts.

Q: Will SlatGrill panels discolor with use?

A: Yes. It is normal for SlatGrill panels to discolor somewhat with use and take on a unique patina, much like a pair of jeans gets faded with use. You needn't worry because the hard-anodized process permeates the actual outer and inner layer of the aluminum, insuring the panels are sealed for years of reliable service. The stainless steel slats may discolor as well, and provided they are regularly cleaned and lightly oiled after use, this too shouldn't be a problem.

Q: Are there any safety precautions I should take when using the SlatGrill?

A: Yes. For your safety, allow all parts to fully cool before handling. Also be sure to exercise extreme care and caution whenever using the SlatGrill around any flammable materials, including the outdoor physical environment. See www.smokeybear.com for more info.

Q: What does "expedition grade" mean?

A: At SlatGrills.com, expedition grade is a product that adheres to highest standards in manufacturing and design. That means high grade 304 stainless steel is used for the slats and 5000 series aluminum is used for the panels. Parts are laser cut for precision and hard-anodized by ISO 9001 certified companies. Whenever possible, Slatgrills.com supports the domestic economy by utilizing local companies in the manufacturing process, thereby insuring quality, intercommunication, and sustainability.
